What is Crafter?

Crafter is a Minecraft block that automates crafting processes within the game. Introduced in the Tricky Trials Update, it accepts recipe inputs and materials, then uses redstone signals to automatically craft and dispense items. This is particularly useful for players building large-scale projects like farms or complex redstone systems where repetitive crafting would otherwise be time-consuming. The block functions similarly to a standard crafting table but with selectable input and output slots, allowing builders to integrate it into automated production chains. It's especially valuable for reducing manual labour in survival mode projects and enabling more sophisticated redstone contraptions.

Key Features

Automatic crafting

triggered by redstone signals to craft items without manual input

Customisable slots

input and output slots can be toggled on or off as needed

Recipe support

accepts standard Minecraft crafting recipes for automated processing

Redstone integration

works within redstone contraptions for complex automation chains

Item dispensing

automatically outputs finished crafted items for collection or further processing

Pros & Cons

Advantages

  • Reduces repetitive manual crafting in large projects
  • Integrates smoothly into redstone systems for advanced automation
  • Allows selective slot configuration for precise control over inputs and outputs
  • Built into Minecraft, requiring no mods or additional installations

Limitations

  • Only functions with standard Minecraft recipes; cannot craft custom items from mods
  • Requires redstone knowledge to implement effectively in automated systems
  • Limited to one recipe per block, so large-scale multi-item production needs multiple crafters

Use Cases

Automating large food or resource farms in survival mode

Creating automated production chains for building materials

Reducing manual labour in repetitive crafting tasks

Building complex redstone contraptions for industrial-scale projects
